General information
Introduction
Renovation of a building in Grancy, Lausanne.
Background / situation
Protected. Built between 1891 and 1894, the building at the beginning of boulevard de Grancy, Lausanne, is protected by the Service des monuments et sites vaudois. Classified at level 3, the building deserves to be preserved, but may undergo modifications provided they do not alter the qualities that justified its rating. Comprising three entrances and located on the lake side, the building offers its residents a view of Lake Geneva. Number 5, to the west of the building, required exterior renovation, which was implemented in stages in 2014 and 2015.
Program
A new look. The renovation involved a number of different elements, the sum of which restored the building to its original appearance. Externally, the work affected the entrance, its door and marquee, the treatment of the facades with hydrogumming, the repair of the eaves and balconies, and the renovation of all the locks, windows and shutters. Inside, the work enabled the renovation of the attic apartments and the addition of two balconies overlooking the lake.
.
Highlights
Protecting the building meant respecting its heritage, particularly in terms of the facades and external appearance. Particular attention was paid to the waterproofing of the balconies, to preserve the image of the original stone edges, and the locksmith's work was preserved and sandblasted. The attic apartments have been renovated with all modern comforts, while retaining the main and significant elements of the original framework.
